Starting October 1, 2025, a new system called the Educational Training Leave Benefit will be introduced.
This program provides financial support for employees who take approved educational training leave to improve their skills or obtain qualifications.
Eligible employees are those who have been covered by employment insurance for at least 12 months within the two years before the start of the leave, and who have a total of at least five years of insured period under employment insurance before the leave begins.
Note that if the employee has previously received basic unemployment benefits or similar payments, some periods may not be counted toward eligibility.
For employers, it is necessary to establish an educational training leave system in company rules or work regulations to enable employees to receive this benefit.
This initiative is expected to help companies promote human resource development and improve employee retention.
