Starting September 19, 2025, a system will be introduced that allows My Number Cards to be used as health insurance cards on smartphones. The service will gradually become available at medical institutions and pharmacies once their equipment is ready, enabling patients to verify eligibility with just their smartphones—no need to carry the physical card when visiting a clinic.
To use the service, individuals must install the Myna Portal App on a compatible smartphone and complete identity verification with their My Number Card once during the initial setup. After registration, the smartphone alone will suffice for subsequent use.
For HR and labor management staff, this change is expected to reduce inquiries from employees regarding the issuance or replacement of health insurance cards, thereby easing administrative burdens. On the other hand, informing employees about the system and providing guidance on its use will become a new task. It is important to utilize the official guidance pages published by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to ensure accurate information is provided.
